Importance of getting health care reform done right

Sen. Michael Enzi, R-Wyo, ranking Republican on the Senate Health, Education Labor and Pensions Committee, delivered the Republicans’ weekly radio and Internet address, Saturday August 29, 2009.

Sen. Enzi discusses how the Democrats are rushing a health reform bill through congress that will ultimately “raid Medicare”, raise costs and increase the deficit.

According to an article today from  JIM KUHNHENN (AP):

Democrats also are calling for cuts in Medicare spending, using some of the savings to help uninsured workers. A House bill would result in a net reduction in Medicare of about $200 billion, though Obama has insisted the reductions would not cut benefits in the health program for the elderly.

But Enzi said:  “This will result in cutting hundreds of billions of dollars from the elderly to create new government programs.”

Sen. Enzi urges lawmakers to listen to what the American people are saying and scrap the Democrats’ current plan in order to “enact common sense reform that will actually cut costs.”
