Like many others, I had been watching the unfolding nightmare at Fort Hood, TX for over an hour on television. Watching in disbelief as the numbers mounted of the dead and wounded at our nations largest military post. They were reporting 12 dead and the estimates of the wounded went from 20 to over 30. The news reported that the president was about to address the nation, and I expected a focused, compassionate and sober President Obama to appear. After all this was no longer breaking news but had been at least 2 hours since the slaughter had begun. I had pictured Obama having spent the past 2 hours with his military advisers collecting information out of concern for the men and women in our military. That he would have been well informed and engaged before he addressed the nation.
Then the news announced that the President was about to speak. At first I was confused, that quickly changed to being appalled at what I was hearing. The President was in a festive mood and even gave a shout out to an individual in the audience, thanked a few people at Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Indian affairs. He was light-hearted and extremely insensitive. I thought it was a mistake, that somebody had put on the wrong tape of some event recorded earlier. Then, after some laughter and applause he addressed the “tragic” even at Ft. Hood.
Where is the outrage with our Alphabet networks, MSNBC or CNN? Remember the way they attacked President Bush when the United States was attacked on 9/11? All the criticism he received from the liberals because at the moment the World Trade Center was being attacked he was in a class room reading to children! The President was informed, finished with the children then promptly removed … they had to find out what was happening and create a plan before the President spoke. What President Obama did yesterday was comparable to having the news media cut in to letting us hear the President finish reading a story to the kids, and then casually address the fact that our Country was under attack!
Obama can’t make a decision on Military support in Afghanistan, but he can take the time to greet returning slain soldiers for a photo opt! The way he handled this attack on our Military was insensitive, crass and showed no respect for the military at all! He is a cold self centered narcissists, that continues to campaign rather than lead our country! This is not the fault of his advisers, this was how he chose to to react in his position as Commander and Chief and shows his absolute disdain for our Military!
(UPDATE: 11/07/09 - it was announced on the news today that Obama and his wife will be attending the funeral next week for the victims of the Fort Hood murders! What is more important is the actions of a true “Commander and Chief”, President Bush. During the same announcement the news noted that President Bush and his wife made a “secret” visit to the hospitalized victims of the shootings. They did not want media attention nor were they looking for a photo opt. President Bush shows true compassion for our military, even now that he is no longer in office. This is just another difference between a True American President, and what we have now as President.)

As always a very good article. As for Obama he would not know the truth if it jump up and slaped him in the face. Pelosi is in my opinon becoming the most hated woman in the United States, and having to listen her go on and on about Ted Kennedy made me want to slap her in the face.

This man is NOT presidential in the lease. He is NOT qualified for the position. He has disdain and dislike for the military. That is obvious.
As my husband and I deliver and pickup ammo and such at the military bases on a regular basis, we have a chance often to speak with the soldiers, sailors there. Most of them grimace when you bring up Obama. They know they must respect the office (President) but they do NOT respect the person.
I fear for our country with this megalomaniac in the White House. I truly do.
This morning the news reported that Obama and his wife will attend funerals next week at Fort Hood.
More importantly, they reported that President Bush and his wife have already been visiting the wounded victims. What a contrast, Bush even as a past President is still 1000 times more a true Commander In Chief, who truly cares about our Military. Obama pales in his shadow!
His behavior should come as no surprise to us, the tax paying American citizens, who take pride in our country. Obama only has disdain for this country including the military. It is extremely hard for a person who is trying to destroy our country at every opportunity to show respect for it. Just watch him when he passes a line of our military, they are proudly lined up saluting their commander-in-chief, the look on his face is beyond description. He does not attempt to disguise his lack of respect. To use the arrival of our slain military as a photo opt is disgusting to those of us who say a silent prayer each time we hear of additional deaths or see the stats or arrivals. I watched his “performance” and tried to imagine his thoughts based on his behavior and based on his behavior, I could only wonder if he might be silently patting the shooter on the back. Some leader – how can those risking their lives daily be proud of him as their commander-in-chief. He hasn’t earned that title yet. Because of the election, it was automatically given to him – to bad he doesn’t appreciate it and try to live up to it. Sometimes you have to “grow up fast.” He hasn’t managed that yet. Surely the ” protocol czar” will look at that total lack of respect and attempt to correct his behavior. The only thing he is capable of is campaigning. His behavior at the beginning of the news conference regarding the Ft. Hood shootings show a man in campaign mode – the only thing he is capable of doing publicly.
