Rep. Jay Inslee, Rep. Rick Larson, Senator Maria Cantwell and Senator Patty Murray ( all Democrats) were quoted in “The Daily Herald” newspaper published in Everett, WA on September 7, 2009, in a cover story written by Jerry Cornfield. The article ” How state’s delegation will tackle health care”, found on the front page.
Inslee, Murray and Cantwell all prefer a final bill that would include a government backed health insurance plan – Public Option. Larson, was a bit more flexible and believes the final bill should offer something that would be available from the government. All four agreed if they pass a bill mandating insurance companies write policies without prejudice for pre-existing conditions, it would make it necessary for Congress to require everybody be covered by some form of insurance.
Here is the part that surprised me, although I see the logic and doubt that this is something most American have thought about – If the government mandates insurance coverage for people with pre-exisiting life threatening conditions, the insurance companies would need more people to purchase insurance to cover the cost of the high risk policy holders.
Think about what they are saying – every citizen would be required to carry health insurance in order to help the insurance companies (or government) make up for the $$$$ losses from the higher cost they would incur covering those with pre-existing conditions. Now, this is starting to make sense and I don’t like their methods or having the health care reform shoved down my throat!
Rep. Larsen is the one that pointed out “if Congress moves to impose such rules (Public Option and covering pre-existing conditions) it appears it must also include a mandate that every person in the country have insurance coverage – which is a controversial idea.” He continued: “It’s an economic issue for the insurers, he said. Their cost will rise so if Congress requires everyone be insured, it increases the number of potential customers for companies to spread their costs”. He concluded that “You can’t have one idea without the other.”
This just reminds us that everything the government promises to include in Health Care Reform, comes at a price to not only us as individuals but also the insurance companies. What happens if they pass the bill with the Public Option and mandated coverage for pre-existing conditions … but they don’t mandate coverage for all Americans? Will all of the insurance companies go broke leaving us with no other option than Government Insurance?
It appears that some of our Congressmen and Senators are returning to DC with out any change in their support of Health Care Reform. They have heard from their constituents, watched the results of town hall meeting in other states … yet they continue to support the liberal agenda of the Democrat party. Just remember how many times we have heard from liberals that they will get this bill passed not matter what!

I don’t believe that the federal government *does* have the power by the Constitution to force us to purchase health insurance. I think this is a horrible idea! Next I’ll be told I am required to purchase a certain type of vehicle, etc. Where does it stop?

I hear you James! It is very frustrating trying to *get the word out*. Very. Seems some people really have their heads in the sand, and not just liberals alone!
I talk to everyone I can about these things. I use facts and I try to teach them about what’s going on. It’s very slow going sometimes.
Thanks to Sandy for making this blog available. It is a noble work!
Yes, or dittoes, to the other posters. Most Americans do not recognize the ramifications of these things. How do we get the point across? I run in some really conservative circles and most of them are not yet at this level. Thanks Bobbi, Blas, and especially Sandy for the herculean effort.

And that says it all! They don’t give a rat’s patooty what we the people think. It’s all about their own agenda.
