Winning an Oscar without Being in a Movie!

The Nobel Committee had to have their nominations in for the Nobel Peace Prize by February 1, 2009, which means that Obama had been sworn  into  office just 11 days prior to their deadline.  The Norwegian Nobel Committee, who chose Obama as the Nobel Peace Prize recipient,  is made up by five members who were elected by the Norwegian Parliament.  All current members of the committee that makes the selection, are former politicians drawn from Norway’s four biggest parties.   It’s no surprise to learn that the committee is considered to have a left-of-center political agenda, which is very compatible with Obama’s political stance.  It’s also note worthy that the Nobel Peace Prize  is often politically controversial.

Several thousand people are asked to nominate candidates by a personal and exclusive invitation.  These invitations to  invite submissions for the nomination are sent to about three thousand selected individuals.  The type of  people chosen to participate in submitting nominations  are  members of governments, members of international courts, professors at the university level, former Peace Prize laureates, and current or former members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, among others.

Here is the full text of what the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s statement regarding Obama’s award:

“The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

“Obama has, as president, created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama’s initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

“Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.

“For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world’s leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama’s appeal that “Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges.”

Hope and Change! Did he receive the Nobel Peace Prize based on a campaign slogan?  They suggest that Obama is the world’s leading spokesman. When did  Americans start electing  anybody to be the WORLD’S spokesman?  Leader of the free world,  yes!   We are the United States of America, a free society … we are the most powerful nation in the world, we are not Europe! If Obama would like to lead the world then I would support him stepping down as President and go run the world through the United Nations. This is not why he was voted into office, we do not want to become a different country!

It is of popular opinion by most conservatives,  that Obama was given this award to further his path towards creating a more  Socialized  European style government in America.  In other words, it was Political!  Is this in the best interest of Americans?   Will this give Obama an excuse to not support our mission and troops  in Afghanistan?  The Norwegian chapter of Amnesty International  questioned the choice of a US president presiding over wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and currently considering a troop build up in the latter.

As I started reading the  headlines:  “Embarrassing Joke” – “It’s not April’s Fool’s, is it?” – “This Makes Mockery of Peace Prize”,  I began to feel embarrassed for our country.    Then I heard the surprised “gasp” when Obama was announced as the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize! People that were attending the press conference where the winner of the Peace Prize was announced were genuinely shocked, as they should have been!

Even the dictator Chavez says that Obama Did nothing to deserve to the Nobel:

“What has Obama done to deserve this prize? The jury put store on his hope for a nuclear arms-free world, forgetting his role in perpetuating his battalions in Iraq and Afghanistan, and his decision to install new military bases in Colombia,” Chavez wrote in a column.

“For the first time, we are witnessing an award with the nominee having done nothing to deserve it:  rewarding someone for a wish that is very far from becoming reality.”

We already know that Obama has been unable to make a decision to provide the requested and much needed troop buildup in Afghanistan. As more young American Hero’s die in Afghanistan, we will see if Obama honors his responsibility as Commander in Chief. Will he follow the wishes of Tyrants like Chavez, or support our troops by sending additional troop buildup as requested by his appointed commanding officer. As each day passes and Obama prolongs making a decision, we must ask WHY? If he is not going to support the troops,  bring them home and suffer the consequences of his actions when Afghanistan falls into the hands of the Taliban and becomes a new terrorist haven.

Mahatma Gandhi was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize five times between 1937 and 1948 but never received the prize, yet Obama, with NO HISTORY of accomplishments and NO EXPERIENCE received the Peace Prize.   It became apparent to me within a very short period of time,  that I wasn’t the only person on the planet that thought it was a joke! Has the Peace Prize lost it value and now equal to a prize from a Cracker Jack Box?

“Scrap the Nobel Peace Prize,” foreign affairs commentator Bronwen Maddox wrote in The Times of London. “It’s an embarrassment and even an impediment to peace. President Obama, in letting the committee award it to him, has made himself look vain, a fool and dangerously lost in his own mystique.”

UPDATE: The RNC issued a statement, and for once, it doesn’t go weak in the knees regarding Obama:

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele released the following statement today:

“The real question Americans are asking is, ‘What has President Obama actually accomplished?’ It is unfortunate that the president’s star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain – President Obama won’t be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action.”

Is our country being manipulated by foreign interests that responds well to Obama’s constant apologies to other countries,  for America.  Is our country being attacked “within”?

Great article.I also think the push for Obama to receive the Nobel Prize was being worked on prior to his taking office. The people behind him must be very proud of their work. Having worked for a large company that set out to get the top “prize” being offered for our type of industry, I know how much” behind the scene ” politics and money can play. It makes a mockery of the Nobel prize to present it to a person who had been in office for roughly a month. Other than insult the American people, what were his accomplishments?
